Spatial – Air New Zealand
Premium Check-in Auckland

Air New Zealand’s new & improved Premium Check In at Auckland International Airport is the result of listening to customer feedback and designing to deliver an improved experience.

The redesigned space has been transformed to deliver a multi-sensory experience supported by the introduction of a variety of supraliminal and subliminal design cues, as well as efficient customer flow.

These design cues include a living wall which references New Zealand’s native plant scape, nestled into a ‘pixelated’ aluminium wall which exploits light, shade, and perforated pattern to create a central ‘art wall.’ The art wall pattern takes its inspiration from the adjacent ‘flight path’ wall, a fluid, sculptural element, in turn inspired by the motion of a bird’s wing in flight. A 12-metre-long digital wall which delivers an immersive digital art experience, helps to gently guide passengers through the space.

Concierge-style desks – evocative of a hotel style check in, are located within semi enclosed enclaves. These ensure that customers have the option to sit and speak face to face with customer service agents.

Base building constraints, such as the low ceiling, are softened through the introduction of custom designed acoustic ceiling panels, their form inspired by the intricate weaving of a bird’s nest.

Another example of ongoing enhancement of the customer experience – at every touch point.
